Making Space, in partnership with Big World Impact are organising an exciting upcoming event. The Make Your Mark Arts Expo will be taking place on Tuesday 22 March from 2pm-5pm at The Dickinson Centre in Leigh Park, next to Park Community School.
The event is aimed at those employed or volunteering within a children’s, youth or educational setting in Havant who want to find out more about how the arts and creativity can make a positive difference to the young people they work with.
We appreciate that with the vast amount of activities on offer sometimes when an excellent arts opportunity pops up onto a screen or flies across your desk you’ll not always know what it is and if you should recommend it or not.
We need champions to help spread the word and that’s where you come in! Creative and youth partners working together will help engage more young people in the arts. We want to make sure that missed opportunities stop and young people know how easy it is for them to access the variety of arts provision on offer.
Background: Making Space and Big World Impact completed a successful youth arts project called Make Your Mark in 2015. The project, funded by Artswork with additional support from ASDA and The Police Crime Commissioner, was a huge success and engaged over 100 young people from Leigh Park. During the project we worked with a range of fantastic youth partners who identified a need for more knowledge and information about different art forms, which would enable them to feel more confident in speaking about the arts with young people.
So what’s it all about?
Make Your Mark Arts Expo: will be a relaxed cross-arts event that will offer youth colleagues a chance to try out a range of art forms in a series of creative taster sessions, chat to makers, network, watch demonstrations, listen to talks, and generally find out more about what is on offer from Making Space, The Spring, Music Fusion, Artswork and a range of other local cultural organisations.
The event, which is free to attend, will also provide information about Arts Award and the work of Artswork. We’ll be sharing case studies, films and evidence and there will be opportunities to explore displays including one on the Make Your Mark project with photographs and comments by young people.
We hope that you’ll leave the event with lots of new ideas, ways to make projects happen in partnership and ideas for funding.
Refreshments will be available and booking a place is required.
We know this event will be really popular so if you would like to attend but are unsure if you fit the criteria please get in touch and find out more before booking a ticket – 023 9247 2491.
There may be limited parking at Park Community School, but there is a lot of on street parking on Middle Park Way. If you’re able to walk or car share that may help.
