On 18 January 2018, Making Space is partnering with The Rowans Hospice to host a fundraising exhibition and auction event to bring our 10th Anniversary celebrations to a close.
The event is themed around the material ‘Tin’, which traditionally is associated with 10th anniversary celebrations. Professional artists and makers are invited to submit work, which showcases their individual creative talent and inspiration.
There will be three parts to the exhibition and all items included in the auction will be anonymous.
Part 1: SMALL TINS – An Open Call to professional artists and makers to decorate, customise or reinvent a small tin (Around the size of a supermarket tin – from fish to bakes beans etc)
As a maker, you have free reign on how you wish to decorate, customise or use the tin for your submission, but all tin cans must meet specific health and safety guidelines. These are listed below. Please give these a read beforehand, if these H&S guidelines are not met, Making Space reserves the right to refuse your submission for exhibition.
SMALL TINS will have a reserve/minimum price for each tin beginning at £20.00
(30% will go back to the artist, 30% will go to Making Space and 40% will go to The Rowans Hospice.
Part 2: MEDIUM TINS – An Open Call to professional artists and makers to put forward a proposal to decorate a larger tin of your choice. (Around the size of a biscuit / olive oil tin)
Making Space will select 9 artists from the submitted proposals to create the work for the exhibition & auction.
If you are interested in creating a MEDIUM TIN, we need an initial written proposal including a description of the work you wish to produce and an image of the type of tin you would like to use. (if you do not have the tin already you can use an image from a google search, ebay listing etc.) Please note: We advise artists not to buy their tin until they have been notified that their design has been selected for the auction.
For this option you may want to fill your tin with existing work or create new work. The tin can be modified on the exterior and/or interior or left intact.
For those needing some initial starting inspiration, a wide variety of beautiful vintage biscuits tins can be found on eBay and in vintage stores.
MEDIUM TINS will have a reserve starting price of £50.00.
(30% will go back to the artist, 30% will go to Making Space and 40% will go to The Rowans Hospice)
Part 3: LARGE TIN / THE TENTH TIN – Making Space will be asking 10 professional associated makers to donate work which will be all be included in ‘The Tenth Tin’. This LARGE PRIZE TIN will have a list of makers who contributed but the contents will remain a surprise.
THE TENTH TIN will have a reserve/minimum price TBC.
