Hello Friends! I’ve got a fab activity for you to try today… Macrame beaded bracelets…
What you’ll need:
We’ve included links to all the materials needed in case you don’t have them at home and need to purchase some. Please note – by making a purchase through the links below, Making Space will receive a small commission, so you will be helping to raise funds for us as well!
Activity:
To start with get your materials together and decide what kind of yarn / thread you’re going to use… I’d recommend going no smaller then an embroidery thread… the bigger the yarn, the chunkier your bracelet will be! Next you need to choose what 2 colours you’d like to use (two contrasting colours look best)
Work out your length… get a bit of yarn long enough to go round your wrist with a bit to spare (better to have it too big, then too small). out your thumb on that point, now measure out double that length again) Your finished length should be 3times the first length you worked out.
Do the same for both colours and tie at the 1/3 point. Make a loop and this point and then knot.
Secure the knotted end to your table with masking tape.
Separate out your colours so say the reds are together on the right, the blues together on the left.
The shorter lengths are going to be in the middle, together, and the longer lengths on the outside.
At this point I like to secure the middle two lengths down to the table using masking tape too!
Then you can start doing the knots… It is easy… It’s basically one knot repeated on alternate sides.
It’s hard to explain so check out the visual below and watch my video demonstration as it’s much easier to ‘get’ when you watch. Basically you take one thread over the middles two making a loop, you put that thread then under the middle two, before pulling the tail up and out to the side it started on before doing the same process on the other side.
When it comes to adding a bead… thread this onto the 2 middle lengths then carry on as normal!
Once your bracelet is long enough, tie the loose ends all together in a double knot and trim to about 4cm (long enough to use as a time)
And that’s it… Whilst it’s probably really hard to understand from the written description, watch the video… it makes it much clearer!! I hope you have a go and get inspired and if you do, don’t forget to send us the pics!!
