Morning all!
Hope you’re all having a lovely time at home and are enjoying our suggested creative activities…. Don’t forget we’d love to see what you create so please share your creations with us!!
For today’s activity I have been inspired by our awesome Reach Out group. Reach Out provides high quality creative workshops to children and young people who have additional needs. One of their all time favourite workshops is when we do is Lego Animation…
As we had to cancel our normal half-term workshops due to lockdown… I thought it would be fun instead to set them all an ‘at home’ challenge which I’m opening up to everyone to get involved with… The more the merrier!!
Want to get involved?? All you need to do is create your own Lego stop-motion animation film at home in the next 9 days and then email it to us by Thursday 16 April. Making Space will then host a virtual Film Festival on our Facebook Page during the day sharing all the lego animation films we receive!
It’s super simple to do (even I managed it and I’m a complete novice) all you need is a smart phone / device, a phone holder/tripod (you can even invent your own) and some lego characters.
Then on your smart phone / device you want to download a stop motion app… I used Stop Motion Studio. I’ve popped the app icon below that you want to look for and a link to a helpful online tutorial (although I just used the very basics for mine and it worked out ok!)
Stop motion is really simple… and it therefore appropriate for all ages! You just take a lot of photos from a fixed point (this is why you need a tripod /stand etc) and each time you take a photo you need to move what’s in front of the camera a tiny bit. When all the photos are played together one after the other it seems like the objects (or in our case lego characters) are moving! Amazing!!
Once you’ve downloaded the app and checked out the tutorial (if you want to) you can get going… I’d recommend having a couple of trials first and make you you have the camera the right way round (not like me!! haha)
And then the only limitation is your imagination… You can choose to create your own ‘world’ by painting or drawing a background… you may want to head out into the gardens use that as your back drop… Or like me you can just sit at a desk and use what’s to hand… everything can become exciting when it magically moves by itself!!
Most importantly have fun… I can’t wait to see what you all come up with… Don’t forget to email me (or ‘We Transfer’) your finished videos to outreach@makingspace.org by Thursday 16 April. Don’t forget to tell me the name of the film and who directed it so I can properly credit you!
I will then share online on Thursday 16 April all the video submissions I receive** on our Facebook Page so you can like and comment!! I will also email everyone who’s submitted and let them know where to head to watch our virtual film festival! I can’t wait to see what you all create and if you need some inspiration you can watch my attempt below (apologies its sideways!! haha)
What you’ll need:
*A smart phone / device
*Lego characters
*A tripod / stand (can be DIY if you don’t have one – you just need a way of ensuring the phone stays in the same spot throughout)
*Download the ‘Stop Motion Studio’ app.
Activity:
Create your own stop motion film using lego characters!
Please note** If any of the videos are deemed inappropriate I will not share. Please ensure that no human faces are caught on film as we won’t have photo consent forms so won’t be able to share. If you have any questions please email me and ask!
