Today’s activity is inspired by our Textile Transformation project with Planet Aware. This project is all about encouraging and inspiring you to repair, recycle and reinvent your unused and broken textiles and clothes rather then sending them to landfill. I’m going to show you how to creatively repair a hole in your clothes with a decorative snowflake design.
What you’ll need:
We’ve included links to all the materials needed in case you don’t have them at home and need to purchase some. Please note – by making a purchase through the links below, Making Space will receive a small commission, so you will be helping to raise funds for us as well!
*Garment that needs repairing
Activity:
Get your garment that needs repairing and use an embroidery hoop to create a workable space around the hole. Select an embroidery thread colour that compliments the garment you’re repairing and thread a needle. Tie a knot at one end and trim off any excess.
Now you’re going to want to use this (see below) as you’re guide to the stitching method. I’d also 100% recommend watching the video demo as I explain and stitch as I go so you can really see what so do, basically follow the stitches on the left using the star points as a guide.
Once you have your outline star you can repeat the process, making the star get smaller with each round! My examples had 3 turns round to fill it all in!
Once finished flip the garment over and knot off on the back, cutting off any excess. You can add more purely decorative stitching to your design, or more snowflakes of different sizes! Have fun with it and if you have a go, please send us your photos!!
