There is always something amazing to be found in nature! We know that many artists, designers and makers take inspiration from a huge variety of natural sources, from the tiniest of microscopic structures to vast landscapes and everything in between.
We’re particularly looking forward to welcoming Tess Paton to Making Space early in July. https://makingspace.org/product/paper-sculpture/
Tess will be leading a workshop exploring the rhythm and pattern of growth, taking inspiration from nature and working with the simplest and humblest of materials – paper.
If you’ve ever marvelled at the internal structure of a shell or the pattern at the centre of a sunflower head we have a feeling this might just appeal to you! Maybe you are a mathematician, engineer or an architect, have a secret inner geek or just like to experiment with materials in new ways and create in 3D? Regardless of your previous experience you will be able to create something unique and spectacular! You’ll learn about a variety of techniques for working with paper like rolling, weaving, quilling, cutting and folding and have the opportunity to develop your own preferred skill and process in doing so. All that in a day’s workshop too!
Equally awe inspiring and, just as amazingly, found in naturally occurring rocks and minerals, are the metallic elements gold, silver and copper to which we attribute such inherent value!
Throughout history in diverse parts of the world mankind has been adorning and embellishing themselves and their possessions with precious metals. Well, great news! Thanks to our resident gilder extraordinaire, Richard Walker, you too can get the Midas touch and transform a selection of objects with the wonderful techniques of this craft. Some of the processes are quite lengthy but Richard will guide you through them over our extra special 3 day Gilding Master Class that takes place on 6, 7 & 8 July.
You’ll explore oil gilding, as well as aspects of water gilding, burnishing, antiquing and glass gilding. All materials are included, additional gold leaf can be bought at trade price from Richard and no previous experience is needed!
Bring on a touch of bling!
