Gilding Masterclass with Richard Walker
November 7 09:30 - November 11 16:30
£595.00
Gilding is an ancient, beautiful, and relaxing craft. It enables you to coat almost any item with a thin layer of pure gold leaf, or others metal of your choosing.
What does it cover?
This course will give you direct professional tuition of gilding. For the first 2 days, you will start with a basic introduction to the traditional gilding processes. This will allow you to understand the different processes and styles of gilding available.
For the final three days, you are encouraged to work on your own project in a discipline that interests you. This could be in framing, sculpture, furniture restoration, glass gilding or anything else that interests you. For this, you will bring in your own object (size permitting). If you have difficulty selecting anything, the tutor can provide help in procuring something suitable.
Once registered you are encouraged to email the tutor for a consultation covering what you wish to attain in taking this course.
What are the learning / outcome objectives?
The course is designed to facilitate learning with students in a much more in-depth and private manner than the shorter courses. You will receive plenty of one to one tuition with the tutor, with guidance on how to develop the piece you are working on in your own particular discipline. This can be in water gilding, oil gilding, glass gilding or a selection of all three. Depending on the project, finishing the item in the five days cannot be guaranteed.
Tools and Materials:
All tools and materials are provided for the course, including a full book of pure 23.5 carat gold-leaf, sample pieces to work on with additional materials available to purchase direct from the tutor.
