Georgia: Arts Award
In October of last year I decided to set myself a challenge and start my Arts Award journey.
With the help and support of Making Space as an Arts Award Centre, I enrolled myself onto their 10-week beginners jewellery course with tutor Sharon Justice, which marked my first step in accomplishing the award.
Exploring a new art form is key to the ‘Personal Arts Development’ part, so I switched my illustrative ways and dived head first into the evening course at Making Space. After the first session, I was in love! I went in with the hope to learn new skills and came out inspired to create!
Jewellery was a craft form that was completely new to me, alongside anything 3D so I knew it would be something that I would have to continue to work at for a long period of time in order to gain valuable skills. After the first term I couldn’t resist but to book onto the spring term and continue exploring silversmith.
From learning the basics, to creating band rings and silver hoop earrings, I was able to explore all the new skills I was being taught. The more I learnt the more I wanted to create.
Now being enrolled within the 3rd week of the spring term, you could say that creating jewellery was a passion I never knew I had. I shall be continuing and mostly certainly heading for that Gold!
