Harry: Guest Blog Post- “My Work Experience”
Harry, a current school student, has recently undertaken a two week work experience here with us at Making Space. Here’s what he had to say about his time with us!
“Work experience at Making Space has been fantastic! It has definitely been an exciting two weeks and it has certainly been busy.
I’ve enjoyed my time here mostly because I have met new creative people. I have also learnt more about Making Space and all the different aspects of a craft organisation including how it is run. I found this really interesting as most things I have been taught; I had no knowledge about before I started working here.
Some of the main aspects of the organisation that I feel I have really been able to learn about further through my two-week experience include:
- How a craft organisation runs on a daily basis.
- Marketing and business within Making Space.
- Outreach within the local community including attending school workshops and events!
I feel that I have been able to work on my key target, which was to improve my confidence. I feel I’ve really shown my confidence by communicating when I had a problem or needed to ask a question, which then led me to completing the tasks I was given by my supervisors.
In terms of the staff at Making Space, I couldn’t have completed my work experience without them! Everyone I have spoken to has been welcoming and kind, which has helped me feel relaxed and confident in myself.
I remember being very nervous on my first day, which I guess, is normal, but from the moment Ami came to the door and welcomed me, I immediately felt positive, happy and relieved.
I would happily come back here if there were any help required or maybe a workshop to take part in. I’m glad I chose to do my work experience at Making Space and I thank my mum’s friend who let me know about this organisation!
I would definitely recommend Making Space to anyone interested in the arts especially those below my year who are looking for an arts/craft placement when they come up to year 10.”
Thanks Harry, you were brilliant!
“Thank you for the great experience. I couldn’t ask for a better placement and I appreciated every minute of it. Thank you Lynne, and the rest of the team. You helped me a lot and I have learnt a lot about an arts organisation, Thank you” Harry Parker
