For our latest 10th Anniversary event , we’ve teamed up with Aspex Gallery, Portsmouth to put on an exciting exhibition featuring the work of Making Space Associate Makers whilst celebrating 10 years of excellence in craft. Over the last 10 years we have collaborated with and supported a whole host of artists, designers and makers working in an inspiringly diverse range of media and styles.
Some have rented studio space with us, many have taught creative workshops as part of our exciting programme, or have worked on outreach based projects with people of all ages. What all these amazing makers have in common is their passion for the creative arts, their love of making, their inclusion in our wider Making Space family and their ability to inspire others.

Those that become Making Space Associate Makers benefit from developmental support, networking and exhibiting opportunities. Kate Reid is one such maker and is a great example of how her involvement with 2 local creative organisations has furthered her creative career for the better. After graduating from Arts University Bournemouth Kate volunteered at Aspex and found out about Making Space. She then went on to successfully apply for a funded studio and the financial and professional support offered, along with a dedicated creative space of her own, enabled Kate to kick-start her business Kroma.
As her confidence and business grew Kate began teaching workshops at Making Space and Aspex, and continued to exhibit and sell her work through an increasingly selective range of opportunities and venues. Kate’s connections with Making Space have continued beyond her studio tenancy and she is part of the ’10 Years of Excellence in Craft’ exhibition showing screen-printed clothing and a selection of limited edition prints in the shop at Aspex.
