Reach Out is a series of creative workshops for children and young people with additional needs who cannot access mainstream activities. Workshops are exclusively for Hampshire young people who have a Gateway Card. All existing previous Gateway Card holders need to have applied for a new one in order to come to these sessions. If you’d like to apply for a new Gateway card please click here to find out more about how to apply.
This listing is for a February Half Term Reach Out workshop. Due to limitations in place we are offering the same workshop in the morning and the afternoon. There is not the option to stay all day as before. This listing is for the morning session (10am-12noon) If you don’t mind what session your child comes to but would prefer us to book them into a session with a group/friends that we think will work best then please email or call us instead to make your booking. Participants will be limited to just 4 people per session. The workshop will be led by Sharon Justice.
10am-12noon | Metal Work with Sharon Justice
Spend 2hrs getting creative with copper and brass! Use a variety of techniques such as sawing, hammering, stamping & using the roller mill to create unique things such as jewellery, keyrings or windchimes. (Bring ear defenders if you need them as this workshop can be noisy)
Due to the recent pandemic, we’ve had to make some changes to the Reach Out workshops. Participant numbers will be reduced to 4 per session and will be sold first come first served. You can choose to come to a morning OR afternoon session OR can opt to be placed in a session with other participants we think your child would work best in (i.e., with friends or with similar needs) We are no longer offering the option to stay all day and have stopped covering a lunch time provision (parents can of course choose to take their child to The Hub (if it is open) with other attendees if they want to, but Making Space staff will not be there to support. We have also created an Updated & Summarised Risk Assessment and will have new procedures in place. This information will be sent out to all those booking on in addition to a updated social story which will document the visual and practical changes around the building to ease anxiety of those attending for the first time in months. In addition to this prior to the workshop taking place either Jo or Ami will be in touch with the parent / carer to discuss the situation at home, how everyone is feeling and anything extra we should know about.
*Please note workshops can be messy, aprons will be available but please wear messy clothes.
*These sessions are designed for the young person to attend on their own, giving the parent a short break. Parents are welcome to stay if they child prefers it, tea and coffee facilities are normally available for free in the corridor however due to Covid-19 and remaining safe parents are advised to bring their own drinks from home. The parents are not intended to come in and do the workshop as well.
*The cost for young people for a 2hr Session is £10. This includes all materials.
*There are 4 places only so please book early to avoid disappointment. places will be sold on a first come first served basis, with payment securing your place.
*Items will be fired after the session and will need collecting at a later date.
