About Ami Lowman
Ami Lowman is a creative artist and maker working across the disciplines of fashion, textiles, illustration and craft.
Mia Mai is a creative company based in Southsea, launched in 2007 by Ami Lowman. Specialising in beautiful and inspired illustrations, fashion & lingerie garments & unique jewellery. Inspiration comes from days gone by, traditional tattoos, pin up culture, vintage undergarments & forgotten trinkets. Ami also accepts bespoke commissions and runs creative workshops
Mia Mai was launched in 2007 by Ami Lowman. Graduating from the University of Portsmouth with a first in Fashion and Textiles Enterprise, Ami left university with an ambition to start her own company having entered and won the 2006 Enterprise Challenge which awards funding and support for new businesses.
Based on the south-coast of the Uk, in the coastal town of Southsea, Mia Mai is an intimate business offering something special and unique. A few influences which are apparent when you look at Mia Mai include vintage fashions, burlesque, pin-up art, 1940’s lingerie, tattooing, forgotten objects and days gone by.
Since childhood drawing has always been a huge passion and this is still apparent today. Ami has developed an iconic and easily recognisable style largely based around wide eyed curvaceous females. A mix of Pin up and tattoo flash with a certain Je ne sais quoi.
As a Fashion graduate, fashion was the backbone of the company in it’s early years. Customised vintage and capsule collections have been created since 2007. In 2012 Ami unveiled a range of lingerie at Southsea Fashion Week which highlighted a new phase for Mia Mai.
Under the Mia Mai umbrella Ami also creates jewellery, runs creative workshops, offers a photographic & design service. You can find out more about these bespoke services by visiting her website.
