Over the past year, young designers have come together from the local area to take part in a course where they have designed, made and photographed different fashion items with designer Ami Hyde.
The young designers have experimented with various different materials, techniques and designs, such as: Shibori; Tie Dye; Screen Printing; Embroidery; Jewellery Making and much more. At the end of each year the young designers hold a fashion show and exhibition to showcase their work. So, on the 10th of July, we will be holding this year’s fashion show where you can come along and see the young designers’ creations down the runway and all their fashion illustrations and photographs in the exhibition.
“This is the second year that the Young Designers course has been run at Making Space but it is my fourth year working with Ami on design courses. I’ve found that the past two years have been much better and easier than the two years prior as the space is much better equipped and we have more materials to create with than we did in the old course’s venue.
“I have learnt many new, fun and interesting techniques over the years and would definitely recommend the course to anyone looking to go into the fashion industry in the future, or for those who enjoy learning and making something unique to them. I would have to say that my favourite project this year was either the silk scarf painting or the denim customisation project, both of which allowed us to design our own patterns or images and to use our creativity to make something that reflected our personalities.”
If you would like to see the work this year’s students have created, tickets to tomorrow’s fashion show cost just £1. The event will start at 7.15, with refreshments included. Tickets are available to purchase online or by calling Making Space on 023 9247 2491.
The autumn/winter term dates have now been confirmed and booking is live for the 9-week course which starts on 18th September. For more information on Young Designers click here.
The term costs £83 and split payments are accepted.
Thanks to a generous grant from the Arts Society, Portsdown, we are able to offer a limited number of subsidised places to young people who are resident in Leigh Park and in receipt of free school meals. These places, costing just £33.20, are not available online so please give us a call if you would like to book on.
