Young Designers: At Home – Activity #12
Hello again Young designers… I can’t believe how quick time is flying by and that this is my 12th Young Designers Inspired post… Officially 3months! wow… That’s like a whole term! I hope you’ve all been enjoying these weekly challenges… I hope you feel they are inspiring you and challenging you to try new things and expand your designing skills! This week I want you to take inspiration from letters of the alphabet to create outfits and garments you wouldn’t normally… pushing the boundaries of your design skills! I hope you have fun, and just have a go!
We’ve included links to all the materials needed in case you don’t have them at home and need to purchase some. Please note – by making a purchase through the links below, Making Space will receive a small commission, so you will be helping raise funds us as well!
So, to start with get set up… You need a template and a plain bit of paper on top…
Then you want to choose a letter of the alphabet… start with A and work your way through to Z, or choose your name initial… totally up to you…
But you want to try and incorporate that letter in as many ways as possible into your design… think of collars, necklines, sleeves, belts, lapels, hems, ruffles… how many ways can you incorporate that letter…? Start with a pencil sketch and press lightly… Use different sizes and scales and have fun with it… the whole point is to design something you wouldn’t normally!
Once the pencil sketch is complete then you can add colour and outline with a black illustration pen to add more detail… I’d really encourage you to try multiple designs… see how different you can make each look! But most importantly just have fun with it (oh and if you have a go don’t forget to send us in some photos of your creations!!)
