Young Designers: At Home – Activity #7
Hello Young Designers…
Today’s activity has been inspired by VE Day which is happening this Friday… I hope you have a go, and if you do… Don’t forget to share your designs with me!
We’ve included links to all the materials needed in case you don’t have them at home and need to purchase some. Please note – by making a purchase through the links below, Making Space will receive a small commission, so you will be helping raise funds for us as well!
Ok, before you begin with this challenge I want you to do some research… that’s really important as a designer… Type into your search engine VE Day and see what people were wearing… I had my google image search up the whole time I was designing as inspiration.
Once you’ve got inspire grab a template… you can create your own or use one of the ones I’ve popped at the bottom of this post. You can do male, female, or a mix… totally up to you…
When it comes to doing your designs start with pencil and press lightly (so if you need to rub out you won’t see the pencil marks… see my examples below) Keep referring back to your inspiration and have fun… mix outfits up and use your creativity.
Once you’re done with the sketching it’s time to add some colour… I’ve been using my new favourite Oleep markers but you can use what ever you have at home. Don’t feel you have to colour everything in… I quite like the bits of white left… but it’s your design, your style… create something YOU love!
Once you’ve got all the colour in it’s time to go over the outline with a black fineliner to add back in all the details and outlines.
That’s it… really simple, but a lovely design challenge inspired by VE Fashions… If you’re feeling inspired why not try mixing it up… an evening wear collection inspired by military uniforms, or a modern take on vintage fashion? Have fun with it and don’t forget to SHARE your designs with me!! See you next week!
