Arts Award offers a range of unique qualifications that support anyone up to the age of 25 grow as artists and arts leaders, inspiring them to connect with and take part in the wider arts world by taking up challenges in any art form – from fashion to filmmaking, pottery to poetry.
MAKING SPACE IS PROUD TO SUPPORT AND BE INVOLVED WITH ARTS AWARD.
INSPIRING YOUNG PEOPLE
Arts Award gives young people the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification, enabling them to progress into further education and employment. Arts Award has five levels, four of which (Explore, Bronze, Silver and Gold) are accredited qualifications, and form part of the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). Arts Award Discover is an introductory level, for ages 5+.
MAKING SPACE AS AN ARTS AWARD CENTRE
In addition to working independently, young people work towards their awards using Arts Award Centres as a base. Our role as an Arts Award Centre is to support children and young people as they take part in the arts. It also enables us to do the following:
Kick-start new and exciting arts projects
Use a clear framework for our existing work with young people (i.e. our Summer School programme)
Enable young people to work towards a national qualification
Engage with more young people through the arts and challenge them to develop their creativity and leadership skills
MAKING SPACE HAS TWO FULLY TRAINED ARTS AWARD ADVISERS IN ALL QUALIFICATION LEVELS: DISCOVER, EXPLORE, BRONZE, SILVER AND GOLD.
ARTS AWARD ADVISERS
Advisers are key to the success of Arts Award. They support children and young people working towards their awards, acting as mentors, facilitators and primary assessors.
To become an adviser, our team members needed to meet relevant criteria, including previous experience of working with children or young people. They then had to complete an adviser training course.

MAKING SPACE PARTICIPANT FEEDBACK
In the summer of 2015 Making Space worked one to one with a young man from a local college. He approached Making Space wanting to do his Bronze Art Award.
Here’s what he had to say about the experience:
“I really enjoyed completing my Arts Award at Making Space as the staff are really helpful with everything such as what level I should do and checking everything through any time I want so I know I will pass.
Bronze level was great for me as it feels familiar to formal art qualifications, particularly artist research, but also new & exciting; teaching me skills such as leading a workshop, working with professional artists & what it is like to work in a professional studio. You can also be as adventurous as you like in the arts, from drawing to dance.
Making Space is great to work in as all the staff are polite, friendly, patient, knowledgable & helpful. There is a very relaxed atmosphere & free drinks all day.
Overall, I don’t know why more people don’t do an Arts Award as the price is very reasonable, the qualification stands out on your CV/personal statement (andGold can give you UCAS points), and it is a lot of fun and a great place to make friends and take part in the local arts community.”
